Bleeding Hemorrhoids

Coping With Bleeding Hemorrhoids

Introduction

Hemorrhoids Bleeding HemorrhoidsAn aggravation of hemorrhoids due to increased pressure in that region leads to the development of bleeding hemorrhoids. Fortunately, hemorrhoids are not fatal and can be treated easily. Before taking the symptoms of bleeding hemorrhoid slightly, make sure that the bleeding is not due to other problems such as anal fissures or anal cancer.

One way of detecting bleeding hemorrhoids is by identifying the symptoms and detecting the reason for aggravation of your condition. The symptoms can be bleeding along with pain, discomfort and itching in the affected area. The following paragraphs discuss the various reasons how bleeding hemorrhoids develop.

How do bleeding hemorrhoids form?

The first step is the formation of mild internal hemorrhoids. When this area is subjected to continual stress and strain and irregular and hard bowel movements, the veins in the area become more inflamed and sensitive. Any further stress thus leads to bleeding which is seen when they pass stool.

When the veins in the rectal area are subject to strain, they become swollen with blood. Increased straining in the internal hemorrhoids leads to more blood accumulation in the veins. This reaches a stage where the veins finally tear and result in bleeding hemorrhoids.

Blood loss from the veins can be seen after a bowel movement. This is usually visible as streaks of blood in the stool or in the toilet bowl or on the tissue paper while cleaning yourself. The next step should be to accurately diagnose the condition before you choose any treatment option. In the event that the bleeding is due to another reason, you will need alternate tests for diagnosis and treatment,

Possible causes of rectal bleeding

Bleeding does not only result from hemorrhoids but veins have other causes as well. This included anal fissure, infection in the rectal are and also anal cancer. Tests like colonoscopy can be used to accurately diagnose the cause of bleeding. In case you have a fissure or crack in the rectal area, antibiotics or a nitroglycerin-based ointment can be used to provide relief.

Bright red blood is detected in bleeding hemorrhoids

A simple diagnosis for bleeding hemorrhoids is bright red colored blood which is seen after a bowel movement. If the blood is darker in color then the condition suggests another medical condition

Blood loss from bleeding hemorrhoids is generally limited to a certain amount, except in some rare cases. If you suspect that the blood loss is more than expected, consult your doctor to get a physical examination done.

Getting Rid of Bleeding Hemorrhoids

Mild Hemroids

For milder cases of bleeding hemorrhoids, using over the counter medications is usually enough. These are topical cream and ointments that can be applied to the region for relief from pain and itching.

Mild to Moderate Hemroids

For moderate hemorrhoids, try using procedures such as sclerotherapy. This mode of treatment gives more lasting relief. During this treatment, a chemical is injected into the bleeding hemorrhoids to reduce the inflammation and size of the hemorrhoids. Another treatment that might work at this stage is laser coagulation in which the affected area is reduced with the help of laser.

Moderate to Excessive Hemroids

Aggravated or excessive hemorrhoids need more frequent or permanent remedies. Although over the counter medications might work for this condition as well, it is better to opt for procedures like rubber band ligation. In this method, the blood supply to the bleeding hemorrhoids is cut off, and results in the withering of the tissue.

Severe Hemroids

For very severe bleeding hemorrhoids, there are fewer options available, surgery being the best and permanent way to remove these regions completely. This method of treatment is not without risks though. It is a very painful condition and has a longer recovery time than other treatments. The advantage of this treatment is that it offers permanent solution to the problem of bleeding hemorrhoids and the chances of recurrence are much lower.
